Our friend Marc Sulik drove us to Baker City, Oregon (Saturday, July 18) to begin our bike tour. We decided this would be a good jumping off point along the Adventure Cycling Trans America Trail (an established bicycle route through the central US) due to the fact that we are getting a late start and the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center is there. This is a fabulous educational opportunity for Gregory and ties in nicely with his 4th grade curriculum. It took 12 hours from Paradise, California to Baker City in a car. We met touring cyclists when we pulled in to Prairie City and couldn't wait to fall into the mode of swapping stories on the road.
